The drought is over for the Altoona-Midway Jets football team with a 44-26 victory over the Chetopa Hornets. Jets haven’t had a win since 2011.” This was a HUGE win for us tonight because I knew they had the talent and the want to win” coach Joe Arell said.  Joe coached these kids when they played in middle school.  The excitement from the fans and players of Jet nation was felt all over Southeast Kansas Friday night .

A see-saw battle for most of the first half had Chetopa going in at halftime with a 20-14 lead. After some halftime adjustments for the Jets defense they really tightened the screws and made it difficult for the Hornets. Arell said”They played lights out kind of football the rest of the way “.  The Jets offense led by quarterback Dawson Ashmore had himself a game to remember throwing for 3 touchdowns and 195 yards to go with 54 yards on the ground.

After 3 quarters of play Altoona had a 28-20 lead and could smell their first victory in a very long time .  The stingy defense led by an aggressive pass rush by Clement Huffman, Kendal Piece , and Dayton March would not let the Hornets get a passing game going to mount a comeback . This was going to be there night to shine . Scoring 16 more points in the fourth quarter sealed the victory this Jets community had been craving for to long . Congratulations young men and the coaching staff!!!
