Argonia-Attica traveled to Pratty-Skyline last Friday night and was outmatched 42-20.

Skyline jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead at the end of the 1st quarter on a pair of early touchdowns, going 1-for-2 in 2-point conversion attempts.

From there it would be a back and forth contest as Argonia-Attica outscore Skyline 14-12 in the second frame thanks to a pair of long passes from sophomore Xander Newberry to senior Mason Miller. The first connection was a 40-yard reception with a failed 2-point conversion. The second was for 25 yards with a successful 2-point conversion.

The Argonia-Attica defense struggled against the run as Skyline for the 2nd consecutive quarter scored on a 13-yard and 42 yard touchdown run. Both times the 2 point conversions would fail, bringing the halftime score to 26-14.

Argonia-Attica kept it close in the 3rd quarter, scoring first with a Newberry 30 yard pass to senior Miles Manns. The point conversion would fail and Argonia-Attica drew within a score.

It’s the closest they would be for the rest of the night.

Skyline would score in the 3rd quarter on a 62-yard run, converting on the 2-point play to bring the score to 34-20 at the end of the 3rd.

The final score of the game came on a 7 yard run by Pratt and converting the 2-point play to finish the night with the win 42-20.

Quarterback Xander Newberry went 7-of-12 with 117 yards and 3 touchdowns. Mason Miller led the team in scoring with 59 yards. He also had 62 yards receiving with two touchdowns. Miles Mans hauled in the only other offensive touchdown.

Argonia-Attica (1-2) will open district play against fellow SCBL Caldwell BlueJays at home on Friday night. Caldwell (3-0) defeated Cedar Vale-Dexter 56-28 last Friday.
