Blue Devils pull away in second half to thump Oxford 54-6

OXFORD — Coming off a come-from-behind victory over defending Eight Man I runner-up St. Paul, Sedan had to avoid an emotional letdown one week later against an undermanned Oxford squad.

Despite trailing 6-0 early in the contest, the Blue Devils took control from that point on to cruise to a 54-6 victory Friday night at Wildcat Stadium.

With that win, SHS improved to 2-0 overall. Sedan will make its first home appearance of the season on Friday, Sept. 14, as it entertains Marmaton Valley. The Wildcats dropped to 0-2 overall following a 30-22 setback to Oswego on Friday.

The Blue Devils found themselves in an early hole. A three-yard touchdown run by Ty Carter gave Oxford a 6-0 advantage just minutes into the contest.

Sedan was able to tie things up before the end of the opening quarter on an 18-yard touchdown run. The Blue Devils then took charge before halftime with a pair of scores from Tayte Halderman — the first on a 55-yard scamper and the second on a five-yard pass play to Cody Joslin. That allowed SHS to take an 18-6 edge into the break.

From there, it was all Sedan. Halderman tossed his second touchdown pass to open the third quarter, and Sears found the end zone from 35 yards out to give the Blue DEvils a 32-6 advantage. SHS then blew the game wide open with three more touchdowns in the fourth quarter, including Halderman’s third touchdown pass and a 30-yard scramble by Joslin.
