Bluestem High School’s football team is all set to hit the field again this year, determined to leave their mark on the Tri Valley League. Under the guidance of Head Coach Ethan Baker, the team is ready to take on the challenges of the 2023 season with renewed energy and a strong lineup of both returning players and newcomers.

A Look Back at 2022

Last year wasn’t the easiest for the Lions, as they faced tough opponents and ended the season with a record of 0-9. However, the team made significant progress on offense, doubling their offensive production compared to the previous year.

Key Players Lost

The team bids farewell to notable players who contributed significantly in the past. Kolby Hebb, known for his skills in both offensive and defensive lines, recorded an impressive 70 total tackles. Gavin Worrell, another standout in the offensive and defensive lines, managed 36 total tackles. Dawson Crutcher, the team’s punter, maintained a remarkable average of 31 yards per punt with a long of 61.

Returning Stars

This season, Bluestem welcomes back several key players who are determined to make their mark on the field. Tucker Gibb, quarterback and all-around talent, showcased his versatility with 162 yards rushing and 2 rushing touchdowns, in addition to 157 yards passing. Colten Neal, a force to be reckoned with, recorded 148 yards rushing and 2 rushing touchdowns.

Strength in Defense

Tucker Gibb doesn’t just excel on offense; he’s also a key asset on defense with 46 total tackles and 2 tackles for loss. Korbin Hebb is another defensive standout whose total tackle count bolsters the team’s defensive line.

New Faces to Watch

Among the newcomers, keep an eye on Axton Vice, a 9th-grade player who promises to make waves as a defensive back.

2023: A Bright Outlook

This year brings renewed hope for Bluestem’s football team. With the coaching staff intact for the second year, the team will benefit from consistent leadership and strategic planning. The team’s roster is stronger than ever, boasting a larger squad of around thirty players. Seniors and juniors will lead the charge, marking a shift from previous years dominated by underclassmen.

As the countdown to kickoff begins, Bluestem’s football team is ready to tackle the challenges, showcase their skills, and make their school proud on the field. Stay tuned for an action-packed season filled with ups, downs, and unforgettable moments. Don’t miss the Lions in action as they strive for victory in the 2023 season.
