MELVERN – The Burlingame Bearcats outrushed Marais des Cygnes Valley 280 yards to 5 in the 46-0 win on Friday night.
Colby Middleton led the team with 152 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns. Kade Kline also had 98 yards rushing with 2 touchdowns.
The lone score in the 1st quarter came from a Colby Middleton 5 yard rush followed by a Wyatt Ledom 2-point conversion. Burlingame led a the end of the 1st quarter 8-0.
The Bearcats poured on the offense in the 2nd quarter. Middleton once again got things going for Burlingame but this time with a 43-yard rushing touchdown. Kline would get in on the action himself with a 14-yard rushing touchdown. The pair would trade off on scoring as Middleton, not to be outdone, broke free for a 71-yard touchdown scamper. Kline would respond with a 48-yard touchdown run of his own. To mix things up, Middleton threw a touchdown pass to Garrett Robison 24 yards into the endzone for the final score 46-0 at halftime. The Bearcats converted on each of their 2-point conversions after the score.
One of the few bright spots for the Trojans was in their receiving yards, with 69 as a team.
Burlingame improves to 3-0 to start the season and will open up district play at home against Chase County. Marais des Cygnes Valley falls to 0-3 and will travel to fellow Lyon County League member Waverly, who is 1-2 on the season with a big win over Southern Coffey County on Friday night.
