BURDEN — One week after picking up its first win of the season, Central-Burden made it two in a row with a key 36-20 victory over Oswego in a key Eight Man I-District 1 contest last Friday at the Central Sports Complex.

The Raiders improved to 2-4 overall while moving to 2-1 in district play — tied with Sedan for second place behind leader Cedar Vale/Dexter (3-0). Central faces a pivotal district showdown this Friday when it travels to Sedan. The Blue Devils are 4-2 overall following last week’s 54-8 home win over Flinthills.

On the other side, Oswego — 4-2 overall and 1-2 in District 1 — faces a must-win situation in pursuit of a possible playoff berth as it travels to Cedar Vale/Dexter. The Spartans rolled to a 58-8 victory at West Elk last week to move to 5-1 on the season.

Last Friday, Oswego pulled within eight at 28-20 following a three-yard touchdown run from Jace Wilson with 3:37 to go. Central answered with a five-year scoring jaunt from Tony Brogan that sealed the deal with 1:33 remaining.

Earlier in the contest, the Raiders took a 6-0 lead after one quarter following a 55-yard scoring scamper from Zarek Wilson. The advantage reached 14-0 early in the second period on Wilson’s second score — this time from 25 yards out. Before halftime, the Indians put their first points on the board on a seven-yard TD run from Jace Wilson to narrow the gap to eight at 14-6.

The teams went back and forth in the second half, with Central holding a 22-12 edge at the end of three quarters.

The Raiders finished with 318 total yards, including 195 on the ground and 123 through the air. Zarek Wilson carried the ball 14 times for 132 yards and two touchdowns.

Oswego recorded 335 yards of offense — 264 of that on the ground.
