The Chanute Blue Comets soccer team traveled to Independence to play the home Bulldogs. The two teams tied at zero-a-piece after 100 minutes of play.

The last time these two teams matched up the Bulldogs took the “W” 2-1. This time, the Comets traveled to Indy with their backs against the walls ready to give the fight of their lives. However, they did not start the game with star seniors, Adrian Becannon and Peyton Babcock, due to cross country. Both teams played hard for the first 80 minutes. Goalkeeper, Chandler Finuf was the star for Chanute, making great save after great save, to keep his Blue Comets in the game. On the other side, the Comets couldn’t get a goal to go.

“Great. Great. I mean, I don’t know how many, twenty saves. He played excellent. We would have lost if it wasn’t for Chandler.” Chanute head coach, Adam Wilcox on Finuf’s excellent play.

Both teams played hard in overtime. Unfortunately for Indy, they couldn’t get past Finuf and unfortunately for Chanute, they were plagued with penalties. In the end both teams would hold a shutout as they tied 0-0.

“We hung in tight in a really hard game. They got a lot better also. I didn’t remember them being this good and maybe it’s because we came out kind of flat in the first half and made it look good. Yeah, going two overtimes scoreless I mean it was a lot of Chandler making great saves” Coach Wilcox on what he saw tonight.
