Oswego (1-7, 1-2 TRL, 0-2 District) @ Yates Center (2-6, 2-1 TRL, 1-1 District)
After being defeated 63-6 by Colgan a week ago, Oswego has been eliminated from playoff contention. That does not mean they have nothing to play for. With only five total seniors on the varsity roster, the Indians can look to gain momentum for their football program heading into next season. This will be the final 11-man contest for Oswego, as they will be dropping down to the TRL 8-Man division in 2018. Chase and Ethan Evans aim to lead the Oswego Indians to an upset victory over rival Yates Center, knocking them out of postseason contention.
Yates Center overcame a six turnover game to defeat Uniontown 24-22 in week eight. Winning kept the Wildcats’ postseason aspirations alive, as a loss would have eliminated them from playoff contention. Running back Jaymond Rice led Yates Center’s offense with 112 rushing yards against the Eagles. To defeat Oswego, the Wildcats will need to again lean on Rice and their rushing attack. All eyes will be on this match-up as a Yates Center win would clinch their first postseason appearance since 2013, while a loss would eliminate the Wildcats, allowing Uniontown to sneak into the playoffs.
Uniontown (4-4, 2-2 TRL, 1-1 District) @ St. Marys Colgan (6-2, 4-2 CNC, 2-0 District)
Coming off of a narrow 24-22 defeat at the hands of Yates Center, Uniontown looks to regroup and play their best game of the season in week nine. In the loss to the Wildcats, running back Andrew Reed gained 146 yards rushing and a touchdown. Turning to Friday night, the Eagles will walk into a hostile Colgan environment with the smallest Class 2A District 4 roster, suiting up only twelve players the last two weeks. Many Uniontown faithful will have their eyes and ears glued to the Yates Center-Oswego contest. If the Eagles are unable to defeat Colgan, their playoff hopes are not completely lost, as a Yates Center loss will guarantee a playoff spot for the Uniontown squad. Already surpassing last years win total of two, Head Coach Jeremy Neville and his Eagles squad look to finish the regular season on a high note.
Traditionally a Class 2A powerhouse, 2017 is no different for the Colgan Panthers. Coming into the final week of district play, the Panthers have rattled off four consecutive wins, including a 42-0 win over Yates Center and a 63-6 win over Oswego. With a win, St. Marys Colgan will win the district outright. Already having clinched a playoff spot, the Panthers will look to tune up their formidable offense and defense for the Class 2A playoffs.
