Cubs Aim For District Title

Weeks 2-4 I thought the Cubs had a tough task ahead of them .  With home games with Cherryvale and Caney sandwiched between a road contest against the Bluestreaks of Neodesha .  After coming off a blowout victory to Leon Bluestem I thought I had seen enough talent From Humboldt to possibly take a Tri-Valley League title .  They sure have enough speed and talent .

Week 2 they beat the almighty Cherryvale team  22-8, that has just seem to have had the Cubs number over the last few years.  The Seniors had never beaten a Charger team in football.  Every Cub senior we have profiled at sek-sports.com has said their favorite football moment was beating Cherryvale.

Week 3 the Humboldt team traveled to Neodesha to try and keep the momentum going .  The Cubs ended up winning 18-7 after dominating the second half. After trailing for the first time in the season 7-6 at halftime .  Humboldt’s defense held them to 4 first downs the entire game .

Now came the real test of the season . The Caney Valley Bullpups were coming to town to face the 3-0 Cubs.  Humboldt was without its signal caller Hesston Murrow for the big game.  The Bullpups used a tough running attack by Grant Richey to leave town with the victory 20-8.

Humboldt has cruised through the last two Tri-Valley games defeating Eureka and Fredonia on the road to give them a 5-1 record heading into district play.  But they have had some injuries come about over the last couple of weeks. And as long as they take care of league rival Erie this week will have at least a share of the Tri-Valley league title.

Now is the time that really matters to these young men. Everyone of the players I have spoken with has talked about ” If everyone does their job we will do something special “. And I believe them . A defensive line with Johnson, Watts, Hurst, and Sophomore Joshua Hull making every snap for the opposing offenses extremely tough .  Linebackers Dagen Goodner and Brent Yost filling any gaps and punishing any runner attempting to gain yards .  The offense has more than enough talent with several different players able to score every time they touch the ball. The Cubs have two capable quarterbacks . Four to five young men that can carry the ball and be dangerous at all times. Then you can’t forget about Seufert and Gillespie going deep in the passing game .  I would hate to have to be a coach trying to prepare for this Humboldt Cub team .

District game 1 is at Erie who has just won their first game of the season . These two have put on good shows the last couple of years . The last two have been 1 score games.  Win this game and you can call the Cubs Tri-Valley league champs .

Week 2 of district play is who the fans are eager for. We finally get to play a game at home . It feels like its been forever since I have seen the turf at B&W sports complex . Last years district winner comes to town for a rematch . Jayhawk-Linn won last years game 48-14 at their place.  It is time for the upperclassmen to revenge that loss . I have the Cubs as the favorite and for them to win this district. This is the game I have circled along with other cub faithful .

They will finish district play on the road at 0-6 Northeast Arma.  Northeast has been outscored by 200 points so far this season .

See you at the games cub fans !!! And lets cheer this team to a district 6 title .
