The Humboldt Cubs improved to 2-0 Saturday with a 42-7 victory over the Fredonia Yellow Jackets. The game was moved to Humboldt for Saturday because of all the rain in the area. Both teams were coming in with big wins the week before.

The Yellow Jackets would win the toss and choose to defer to the second half. Humboldt would receive the ball and march right down the field to score first. Cub wide receiver Kyler Allen would run it in from 22 yards out to go up 8-0.

Fredonia brought some size to the contest and would try and run smash mouth football. A little different style of offense than what they played a year ago. Humboldt’s defensive line was just to quick and strong for the Yellow Jackets most of the evening .  The Yellow Jackets offense would go 3 and out with its first possession.

Humboldt would continue there scoring frenzy. They would score 42 first half points . Junior Conor Haviland and senior quarterback Dagen Goodner would find the endzone multiple times . Goodner would use his legs and when needed to he had some nice success throwing the pigskin. He finished with 168 yards through the air and 74 on the ground for the game.

Fredonia would get on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter. After the teams traded turnovers Fredonia’s Owen Blandamer would punch it in from the 1 yard line. With a running clock the entire second half the game finished pretty quickly .

The loss drops the Yellow Jackets to 1-1 in this early season. They will travel to Leon Bluestem next week. Humboldt will host Eureka in week 3 .
