The Humboldt Cubs needed one more win in Tri-Valley league play to secure a share of the Championship .  They had little trouble doing just that Friday night with a 38-0 win over rival Erie. Humboldt was much quicker off the ball on both sides of the ball . The Red Devils had some size up front on their offensive line but they just weren’t quick enough tonight .

Erie deferred to the second half on the coin toss to give the Cubs first chance with the ball. A penalty would stall their drive and would force them to punt the ball .  Erie tried slowing down Humboldt with early and silent snap counts .  The cubs were still to quick to the ball carrier much of the night .  Erie had to punt on its first series.

Jacob Barker , senior tailback for the Cubs would score the games first points with a 8 yard run.  The other Jacob , Haviland that is would punch it in for the two point conversion to put Humboldt up 8-0. And you will hear more about Haviland in this game .

The Red Devils would move the ball some with their next opportunity with the football . But after collecting a first down the Humboldt defense, led by Dagen Goodner in tonight’s ballgame, Erie was stuffed for no gains and forced to punt . Haviland would make the Devils pay for kicking the ball his way with a 60 touchdown return .  He has proven to be very dangerous when given the ball in the open field . Humboldt would lead 16-0 after Wyatt Seufert would get the 2 point conversion.

Erie’s Junior quarterback Jaden Gard would try to get something positive going for his offense . He ran the ball tough tonight as did Junior tailback Jordan Myers.  Most of the night they would have 3 Cub defenders through the line of scrimmage to meet them for the tackle . They did not give up though. Erie hasn’t had a lot of success this season but with the courage and fight I seen from them young men tonight they could be tough next season .

After a quarterback sack by senior Seth Hegwald , Erie was forced to punt yet again . Haviland would make Erie regret punting to him once again . He flew down the field for a 86 yard touchdown return to put the Cubs up 22-0 after the two point conversion was no good .

Someone either made Goodner upset or lit a fire under him before this contest . He was allover the place on both sides of the ball . Dagen had 15 tackles , 1 for a loss , and a fumble recovery . David Watts caused a lot of headaches for the Red Devils tonight . He had 10 tackles at the defensive tackle position.

Humboldt would score once before the half was complete. Kyler Allen connected with Teryn Johnson for a 18 yard touchdown pass. The Cubs would go in at half with the 30-0 lead.

Erie would have some success moving the ball to begin the second half . Gard would complete a pass for a first down then had a quarterback keeper for another.  But Erie would put the ball on the ground when Goodner recovered .

Humboldt would score one more time with another punt return touchdown to put the score at 38-0. Can you guess how ? Yep , another punt return touchdown but this time it was Barker with 52 yard score .

Humboldt 6-1 will have its last regular season home game against Jayhawk-Linn next week . Erie 1-6 will play at home versus Northeast Arma 0-7.
