Two former South East Kansas league foes squared off in Pittsburg Friday night and it was the Pittsburg Purple Dragons using their strength and speed to defeat the Chanute Blue Comets 54-7.

The Purple Dragons capitalized on a Chanute interception early in the game to go up early 6-0, with a missed extra point attempt. By the end of the 1st quarter Pittsburg was up 21-0 and by half time Pittsburg had a commanding 35-0 lead. Pittsburg would score 19 more points in the second half.

The Chanute Blue Comets lone score of the game wouldn’t come until the 3rd quarter when Lane Harvey jogged 76 yards for a touchdown.

Chanute falls to 1-1 on the season while Pittsburg improves to 2-0.

Chanute will host their first home game of the season and play their first league opponent in Fort Scott next Friday night. Kick off is set for 7PM.
