Boy did the Tornadoes need this victory. After starting the season with a win Eureka had lost four in a row. Not the way anyone wanted to see this season go . But on this Friday night things were going to change . The Tornadoes down at the half 16-15 to Tri Valley league opponent Neodesha were able to storm back in the second half to double their win total with a 36-22 score. Coach Nichols stated that several people told him that they haven’t had a team win a game after being down in the first half in a very long time.
Neodesha booster club raised over $1,000 to help Eureka with stadium repairs after the tornado damage in late June. I would personally like to thank them for doing this. I wish every school in the area would of done something like that.
Eureka 2-4 and 1-2 with -14 points with two weeks to try to qualify for the class 2A playoffs will travel to Belle Plain 3-3 and 2-1 with 2 points in district 5. Neodesha 0-6 and 0-3 with -41 points will go to league rival Cherryvale 2-4 and 0-3 -36 points.
Neodesha has dealt with a lot of injuries this season and because of that they are sitting at 0-6. They had a really close game the week before with an overtime loss to Belle Plain. The one thing the Bluestreaks haven’t done is give up. They continue to play hard and try to get better. I wouldn’t expect anything less from a Coach Black team.
The Eureka Tornadoes corrected some of the mistakes that had cost them in weeks past to get their second victory . Not as many dropped balls or bad snaps can definitely make a difference.
Cade Burden had 263 yards with 10-23 passing and 3 touchdowns, 1 interception and 1 rushing touchdown
Brennan Lowe rushed for 79 yards on 11 carries with 1 touchdown and had 1 reception for 68 yards
Zach Hare 3 catches for 137 yards and 3 touchdowns (have a game why don’t you )
Cade Larcom 3 catches for 28 yards
