All scores are in from Friday’s basketball action around the Southeast Kansas League.
The Fort Scott girls clinched the outright league championship with a 34-33 victory over Independence. This was the second straight season the Lady Tigers have won the SEK title after sharing the crown with Labette County a year ago. It is the first outright championship for the Fort Scott girls since the 2012-13 season. Overall, the Lady Tigers have won 10 SEK championships in program history — the second-most in the league for girls’ basketball behind Labette County’s 22.
Brackets for the Class 5A and 4A sub-state tournaments will be announced on Saturday. Tournament action gets underway with semifinals on Tuesday, Feb. 28, with 4A boys and 5A girls. The semifinals for 4A girls and 5A boys will be on Wednesday, March 1. Championship games will be held on March 3 (4A Boys and 5A Girls) and March 4 (4A Girls and 5A Boys).
