Football Is Back Baby

Practices started this week for all Kansas high school football teams. This is my favorite time of year . Well when we finally get football temperatures is.

I am still waiting on some information from some of the Tri Valley league coaches to complete my league preview. But I do want to talk about a few things about the league.

There have been big changes for this season. With all new alignments with classifications and the different district set up.  I am not sure how I feel about all this quite yet. Most coaches I have spoken with say they think it will be good for everyone. The only negatives I can see is what it will do for league standings. Some teams just won’t play as many league games as others. The other for me anyway is Saint Mary’s Colgan playing in 1A just isn’t right. One positive is with some of the classes is they will not have to play the last regular season game on Thursday and then have to turn around and play another game on Tuesday . Then if they win, another game on Saturday .  Time will tell with the new changes and I am all for some change to make things better.

I am very excited about the league this year. Last season we had a three way tie for the league champion between Caney , Cherryvale , and Humboldt.  I believe this season the league will be better from top to bottom. Neodesha and Eureka are teams that I think will make the Tri Valley league a little better than last year. There are a few new coaches to the league. Jason Fiscus will lead the Leon Blue Stem Lions and Jason Nichols will try to get the Eureka Tornadoes back on track.  Humboldt and Caney Valley will be strong again. Cherryvale lost quite a bit of talent with graduation but bring back senior quarterback Cade Addis . He will definitely be in the mix for player of the year. As most of you know Eureka will play every game on the road in 2018 because of damage from the June tornado that destroyed their stadium .

Be on the look out for my Tri Valley league preview coming out soon. There is plenty to talk about . All you athletes out there work hard and stay healthy .
