HUMBOLDT – On Senior Night, the Cubs used a 62-6 halftime lead to finish off the Vikings of Northeast by a final score of 76-6. Humboldt, in fact, outscored Northeast 62-0 in the first half alone.

“Senior night is bittersweet. It’s like homecoming. It’s special. This group has done a lot. We don’t typically get this many seniors typically from a group like this,” said Humboldt head coach Logan Wyrick.

Senior Conor Haviland added to impressive streak recently by averaging 24 yards per carrying, with 169 yards on the ground on 7 carries, and one for five with 45 yards through the air. Haviland scored three touchdowns on the ground for the Cubs.

When talking about the night compared to some of Haviland’s bigger stats this season, Wyrick gave the senior his due. “It’s still an amazing night. Still, what he’s doing is amazing right now. We find ways for others to respect.”

Senior Cooper Jaro also posted two scores on the ground along with senior Briar Orth, Isiah Conorando, Titan Michael, and Jackson Aikens.

“We got alot of great athletes. I don’t know what’s in what in water, but we got some speed. Coronado is a speedster and Gunner Elder joined us this year. (Elder)’s a good wrestler, Biranr Orth was good defensively.” Wyrick also mentioned his underclassmen. “We got some from the underclass that has stepped up for us in big ways.”

On the defensive side, Speed Hoepker once again made his presence felt with 10 tackles.

“He slides up on the linebacker on the light side but goes hard to the ball. That’s the way it is. Byrer is figuring it out as well. We let them run around and fun to watch.”

Despite their impressive run through district play, the Cubs will need a win over the Southeast Lancers for the District Title, and chance to claim a home-field playoff game.

“As a coach, we just have to worry about the game in front of us. We’re going down there. We’ve been successful on the road as well but we’re’ hoping to take care of business. This could be special for Humboldt back-to-back district titles.”

The Northeast Viking, eliminated from the playoffs, will play fellow eliminated team Erie on Friday night for the week 8 regular-season finale.
