UNIONTOWN, Kan. – The Uniontown Eagles squared off with Three Rivers League foe Jayhawk-Linn Friday night. Both teams came into the game with a 1-0 record. Uniontown entered the game after defeating Southeast, 16-12, while Jayhawk-Linn came into the game riding the momentum of a thrilling last second victory over Neodesha. Jayhawk-Linn would ultimately prevail Friday night, defeating Uniontown 36-0.
On Jayhawk-Linn’s opening drive, Senior running back Harley Stone took a hand-off 75 yards for a score. The Jayhawks went for a two point conversation, but were denied, leaving the score 6-0. The Eagles would stiffen up on defense to limit the Jayhawks’ offense the rest of the quarter, resulting in a 6-0 Jayhawk-Linn lead at the end of the first period.
The Eagles began the second quarter by marching to the Jayhawk-Linn twenty-five yardline, but an off target snap from the center was recovered by the Jayhawks, ending a promising drive for the Eagles. On the ensuing Jayhawk-Linn drive, Stone took a sweep toss down the field, breaking three tackles on his way to a 64 yard touchdown. The two point try was successful, putting the score at 14-0 in favor of the Jayhawks. Later in the quarter, Junior running back Hayden Broyles would find his way into the end zone for the Jayhawks. After another successful two point conversion, Jayhawk-Linn lead 22-0. An Eagle drive stalled to end the first half, leaving the score 22-0 in favor of the Jayhawks.
The Eagles opened up the second half with the ball, running two straight running plays before fumbling the ball. After a scrum for the loose football, Jayhawk-Linn came away with the ball. The Jayhawks would march down a short field and score a touchdown. They failed on the two point try, leaving the score at 28-0. To end the third quarter, Jayhawk-Linn again marched down the field, scoring another touchdown. After a successful two point try, their lead ballooned to 36-0.
Both teams were held scoreless in the fourth quarter, and Jayhawk-Linn would go on to win the contest 36-0.
Jayhawk-Linn improves to 2-0 (1-0, TRL) on the season, while the Eagles fall to 1-1 (0-1, TRL).
Senior running back Harley Stone led the Jayhawks offense with 180 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns. Jayhawk-Linn finished with 297 total yards on offense, while Uniontonwn finished the game with 117 yards on offense.
Next Friday Uniontown will travel to Northeast-Arma, while Jayhawk-Linn will travel to face Oswego.
