2018 saw Madison return to the top of the Lyon County League, and they are poised for a repeat heading into 2019. A unanimous number one spot in the coaches poll backs up that statement.
Madison returns most of their core that helped the Bulldogs go undefeated in league play en route to a 9-1 overall record.
Burlingame had its streak of three consecutive league titles come to an end last year. They look to reload after the graduation of Seth Greenwood, Montana Giffin, and Keller Snesrud that gave them a 4-1 in league play and 8-2 overall in 2018. If its any indication how the first five years have gone for Head Coach Jeff Slater, they will be near the top of the pack.
Although the fans did not come out to vote for the Lebo Wolves, they’re predicted to finish 3rd from our coaches poll. Second-year Coach Brian Hadley returns all of his starters on offense and seven on defense. Expect the Wolves to make heavy strides from their 4-5 record last year.
For the first time in 26 years, Waverly will have a new coach manning their sidelines. Mike Hevel’s assistant coach Nick Fraenza will take over the reins in 2019. He will look to replace 9 seniors from last year’s 9-2 team.
The remainder of the league poll is rounded out with Hartford, MDCV, and SCC, all facing different challenges heading into 2019. Hartford and SCC lost plenty of production on both sides of the ball to graduation. Lewis Whitson’s MDCV Trojans return six starters on each side of the ball from last year’s 1-8 team but are still young in many key positions.
The Olpe fans are a perfect 2 for 2 in fan polls so far in 2019. Edging Madison in both the battle of the fields and our most recent poll for most wins. Olpe has been independent of the LCL for football since 2007. The Eagles once again saw a deep run in the 1A state playoffs, finishing runner-up to Smith Center. Olpe returns a majority of snaps from last year’s team and will once again be a factor in the East for 1A.
