I personally want to thank the Farm City Days committee for having me do the announcing for their parade on Saturday. If you haven’t been to Farm City Days in a while, you really should plan on checking it out next year. I know it’s so cliche to say, but they really did have a bit of everything for everyone. From live demonstrations of old-school farm techniques to vendor booths.

1. So Close

There were lots of games that were close, back and forth, contests this week, even if the final score doesn’t show it. Games like Coffeyville and Chanute, Neodesha and Cherryvale, Fredonia and Douglass all were thrilling games to follow on social media with updates pouring in. Even teams like Iola and Riverton who have had their fair share of struggles seem to be playing their best football right now with one week to go. It’s an exciting time for football fans and it’s great to see hardwork that the coaches and players have put in finally paying off.

2. Looking ahead

All that hard work and teams playing their best games right now have set up for some intriguing Week 8 match-ups. For those (like me) who have had a tough time following the new playoff system for 3A and 2A this is the last week of the regular season. In 3A and 2A, the top 4 teams in each district will advance to the playoffs for “week 9” while the bottom 2 teams will play the bottom 2 teams from another district for their final game. Make sense? No. Well…we’ll all learn as we go along. Looking at our District and Playoffs page, the 8 districts featuring our area teams only 3 have clinched their district championships and 5 total are for sure going to the big dance. With so many teams not only contending for a district championship, but also battling to be at home, on the road, or out of the playoffs, next Friday night is shaping up to be a fun night of football.
