Neodesha Ground Game Tames Lions

Leon, KS – The Neodesha offense combined for nine rushing touchdowns en route to a win on the road against Tri-Valley League opponent Leon-Bluestem. The game also featured current Neodesha head coach John Black facing off against current Bluestem head coach, and his former player, Jordan Echer.

“We had a lot of kids that stepped up. We have kids injured and their replacements played a good game. Zeke Reily played very good at guard.” said Neodesha head coach John Black.

Randall McKinnis rushed for 156 yards and 5 touchdowns for Neodesha. Dominic Skinner contributed 143 yards on 12 carries and 3 touchdowns. Blaze Grimes added 54 yards of rushing and a touchdown. Also getting in on the offensive action were Vayu Tinsley, Toby Curtis, Pheonix Carpenter, Bryan Adams and Seth Strange.

The Neodesha offense tallied 19 first downs. All were achieved through rushing.

“Bluestem has 3 great skills players and our kids did a pretty good job at covering them. ” added Black.

In talking about facing his former player, Coach Black said “I’m so proud of the young man he’s become. Players can make a coach enjoy their job and I enjoyed coaching him.”

Neodesha improves to 3-3 on the season and 2-2 in league play. They open up district play at home against rival Fredonia.

Leon-Bluestem’s loss drops them to 2-4 on the season and in league play and travel to Wichita-Independent to begin District play.
