New Rivalry Humboldt At Jayhawk Linn Preview

After 2017’s back and forth battle between the top two teams in their district there were some shenanigans that happened at midfield . I am not sure exactly what it was but I think it was something that you would see Baker Mayfield or Terrell Owens do and some people would think it was great and others would hate it. It took a little away from what was a great game between the very good football teams. Jayhawk Linn won 34-30 with a late score from the most talented player I seen a year ago , Brandon Gray.

The Jayhawks have won the last two meetings between the teams. They will come into this matchup with a 2-1 record after losing last weeks game to Pleasanton 36-12. Jayhawk Linn isn’t accustomed to losing like that. I think the game was a lot closer than what the score says. Pleasanton’s quarterback  Kaden McKee took over in the second half making a lot of big plays. The Jayhawk Linn team lost some talented players from a year ago but so did Humboldt.

Humboldt comes in Hot. Winning three in a row by a huge margin.Last week dismantling the Eureka Tornadoes 56-6. But after speaking with some coaches this week some of the players have been just going through the motions and not playing sound football at all times like they are expected. They have been using this weeks practice time to clean some of that up. Humboldt’s defense has been stellar to this point. But this game they will need to play at their best to keep the perfect record.

Jayhawk Linn returns quarterback Treyton Compton and runnng back Hayden Broyles . These young men are good football players. They are seasoned players that will make you pay if you make mistakes against them. Coach Randy Leach will have his men ready for battle Friday night there is no doubt about that. This team tackles well and runs hard. When you do that you will win more games than you lose .

Humboldt’s senior quarterback Dagen Goodner is really making a name for himself on the offensive side of the ball this season. Playing the position for the first time he has been really good. Opposing coaches have really had high regards about his play . He has been known for what he does as a linebacker since he was a sophomore. Goodner has a lot of help on both sides of the ball in 2018 so he doesn’t have to try and do it all by himself. And he knows that. If any team isn’t aware of junior tailback Conor Haviland they will after a he touches the ball a time or two. Tucker Hurst and David Watts made sure last week they weren’t forgotten with huge games against Eureka. When those two play the way the did last Friday it will be tough for any team to have success moving the football.

This is Humboldt’s first game on the road in 2018 . Jayhawk Linn is not a easy place to go and get a win. This district 1 game should be a dandy . I will definitely be making the trip to watch both these teams battle for what could be the biggest game in the district just like in the last couple of seasons.
