Olpe started the 2019 campaign victorious on Friday night, racing out to a 28-0 halftime lead, before winning 55-7.

Senior Quarterback Colby Hoelting was the first Eagle to score in the game, plunging in from the one-yard line early in the 1st quarter. Hoelting would get his first passing touchdown when he connected with sophomore Damon Redeker for the Eagles second score of the quarter.

Junior Tailback Kyndon Robert, who had plenty of success against the Trojans last year with 200 yards rushing scored from three-yard line to start the second quarter. Hoelting would add another passing touchdown, this time to Senior Tight End Wylie Redeker with 1:03 left in the first half.

Olpe would duplicate the touchdowns of Robert and W. Redeker in the 3rd quarter, along with a rushing touchdown from one yard out by junior running back Jordan Barnard.

With a running clock in the 4th, the Eagles found the endzone once more when Barnard scampered in from the five-yard line. The Trojans would light up their half of the scoreboard when the clock struck zero, as Vincent Fox found a lane for a 47-yard touchdown run.

Olpe’s Head Coach Chris Schmidt was pleased with his team’s effort in game one. “It was an okay showing for us. We were able to throw the ball pretty well when our running game was inconsistent at time. I felt our defense played pretty solid tonight.”

Olpe will take their 1-0 record on the road next week when they travel to Burlington. This will be the fourth consecutive meeting between the two schools, with Olpe winning last year 31-0. Burlington started off their season with a 46-20 victory over Council Grove.
