In a battle of the Eagles on a soggy Friday night, it did not take long for one to soar above the other. Senior Dawson Soyez took the opening kickoff 70 yards en route to a 61-0 victory for the Olpe Eagles.
Soyez would find the endzone on the receiving end of a 38-yard pass from Senior Colby Hoelting. Hoelting would add a 43-yard rushing touchdown the next time Olpe touched the ball.
Junior running back Kyndon Robert would cap off the scoring the opening quarter for Olpe scoring from 8 yards out with 2:41 left to go in the first. Robert would add two more rushing touchdowns in the second quarter.
Sophomore Damon Redeker and Senior Hayden Rhodes also scored on the ground to give Olpe a 54-0 lead at the half.
Olpe’s junior varsity would see plenty of action in the second half with a running clock. Sophomore Derek Hoelting added to Olpe’s lead with 1:09 left in the third when he found the endzone from 6 yards out.
Freshman fullback Garrett Cole would finish off the scoring on the night when he rushed for a 26-yard touchdown.
C. Hoelting was 6/6 for 107 yards passing, to go along with 56 yards on the ground. He would cap off the evening by being crowned King by his peers during Olpe’s homecoming festivities.
Olpe improved to 5-0 and will begin district play next week on the road with Bluestem.
“When we watched film on Monday (after a 28-14 win over Jackson Heights), we realized that we failed to execute like we were capable of. We spent this week working on the little things in practice. They needed to have a perfect film session this Monday, and I feel like they came out and took care of business tonight,” Head Coach Chris Schmidt of Olpe added after the victory.
Uniontown drops to 1-4 on their season and will play Pleasanton next week to begin their district.
