The Chanute Blue Comets soccer team clashed with the Purple Dragons of Pittsburg on Tuesday, suffering a 3-0 loss in their first road game of the season. Despite the fact that it was in Pittsburg, the Blue Comet faithful easily doubled the home fans.
“We had an awesome crowd. I think we had a better away crowd than they did at home.” Coach Adam Wilcox commented on his fans.
The Purple Dragons started the game off quick as Carlos Salas scored the first goal in the 6th minute. For the remainder of the half, Chanute was able to slow down the Pittsburg offense, including many great saves by goalkeeper Chandler Finuf.
“Chandler is the man of the match he saved it from being embarrassing.” Coach Wilcox on his goalkeeper.
11 minutes into the second half, Cristian Luna scored the second goal for Pitt. Then just 2 minutes later they knocked in their 3rd and final goal.
“Our energy picked up from the first half to the second half, which is what I asked them to do. When starters weren’t playing to their ability we had bench players step up and play well. Guys like Lawson [Collins] and Thomas Ramsey came in and played a lot of good minutes, Jack [Hendrickson] played a good 20 or 30 minutes throughout the game. It’s not in his normal role to play that much but he gave me more than what I asked for. Andrea [Cuin] played good minutes.” Even after the 3-0 loss, Coach Wilcox was able to find some positives.
