SEK-Sports.com: Did your team attend any summer camps or summer weights? If so, what are your thoughts on how it’ll prepare you for the upcoming season

Heather Wilson: Our team LCHS has been active in the weight room and at the CORE in Parsons to increase strength and quickness. We also attended Coffeyville Summer league and Southeast Invitational Tourney as well as our own home camps taught by me and another by CCC’s Head Coach.

We hope that the ability to come together in the summer and get their hand on a ball in June and July, and will help their continuity and teamwork.  We have already seen a difference in where we are starting the 2nd week of practice which is further ahead than normal.

SS: Who are your returning starters?

HW: 5’11 Middle Blocker/Hitter Justice Brackney (Senior), 6’0 Middle Blocker Halle Bevans (Senior), 5’10 OH Laci Strickland (Senior), 5’6 Setter Payton Smith (Senior), 5’10 (part time starter) DS Becca Bogner (Senior)

SS: Who are your key players for this season?

HW: 5’6 OH Abby Ryan (Junior), 5’4 Defensive Specialist Jaidyn Leech(Senior), 5’8 OH Sydnie Stice, 6’0 MH/OH Anna Dean, 5’8 Utility Elsie Sorrell

SS: Other than winning league and winning your Sub-State, what are your goals for this year as a team?

HW: We want to play like warriors (that’s our motto)

We’ve identified playing as a team, playing hard, playing passionately, and taking risks as major goals.  We also want to pass more effectively and play in system more which will allow us to play a little faster.

SS: Is there any game in particular that you or your team is looking forward to this season?

HW: We always like playing Indy– and testing ourselves against them.  I think we played them 9 times last season. Our last tourney at Anderson County is always a great test to see great competition all across the state, as there were 5 state ranked teams there last year.

SS: Anything you would like to add?

HW: Thanks for the recognition.
