SEDAN — It took only one half for Sedan to make quick work of Flinthills last Friday in a 54-8 Eight Man I-District 1 victory at Prather Field.
“We needed this kind of bounceback after the way we played last week,” said SHS coach Mick Holt. “Other than their first drive, we did a good job of slowing them down. Our offensive line did a great job for us. The boys bounced back well after a loss and played a good game. Now we have to look ahead to our final two games of the regular season.”
The Blue Devils improved to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in district play following that victory. Heading into this week’s action, Sedan was tied with Central-Burden for second place in the district standings. Coincidentally, those teams will face each other this week in Sedan with the winner locking up a playoff berth. The Raiders are currently 2-4 overall following last week’s 36-20 home victory over Oswego.
Sedan beat Flinthills despite finishing with just 148 total yards of offense. The Blue Devils were led by Tayte Halderman, who carried the ball seven times for 124 yards. Five of those rushes resulted in touchdowns for Halderman, including scampers of 34, 1, 42, 8 and 23 yards.
The Blue Devils led 16-8 after one quarter — with Flinthills’ score coming on a 26-yard run by Brandon Gleason. But SHS blew the game wide open before halftime with 38 unanswered points in the second quarter, capped off with touchdown runs of 10 yards by Eli Campbell and four yards from Dameion Hatten.
Flinthills remained winless on the season at 0-6, including 0-3 in District 1. The Mustangs will make their final home appearance of the season this Friday against West Elk. The Patriots are 3-3 overall and 1-2 in district play following a 58-8 home loss to Cedar Vale/Dexter.
