(If you have a senior student-athlete you’d like to nominate for our showcase, fill out the form by clicking here)
In our continuing effort to highlight our senior student-athletes, we are presenting our “Senior Showcase” feature. Whether a senior intends on continuing their athletic career at the next level or not, we are wanting to highlight the accomplishments of this year’s senior class.
Chanute High School senior Makayla Schoenhofer is a 3 sport student-athlete and took time to tell us about some of her favorite memories as a Blue Comet and plans going into college as well as some little known facts.
SEK Sports: It’s your final year of high school. What are your favorite memories during that time and what are your expectations for your senior year?
Makayla Schoenhofer: A few of my favorite memories for my final year of high school include winning substate my junior year and going to state for volleyball, being SEK champs for basketball my junior year and watching our boys team go to state for basketball last year. The expectations for my senior year are to have as much fun as I possibly can with my teammates and make more memories with them. Also, to have successful seasons in volleyball, basketball, and track. I will work hard to be a leader that all my teammates can look up to and come to if they ever need anything. In the classroom, I expect to work hard and keep good grades to help me in the future with colleges and scholarships. I want to make sure senior year really is the best year!
SEK: What are some of your interests and hobbies away from school?
MS: Some of my interests and hobbies away from school are playing club volleyball, shopping, watching netflix and hanging out with my friends. I also love going to amusement parks.
SEK: Who is your favorite athlete? Favorite sports team? Favorite music group/singer?
MS: My favorite athlete would have to Udoka Azubuike or Kelsie Payne. I enjoy watching the Jayhawks and the Royals. I listen to all genres of music but my favorite is country and my favorite singer is Chris Young.
SEK: Who are the people that you look up too (role models)?
MS: My parents are definitely my role models because they have always been my biggest fans and are always there to push me and have my back.
SEK: What are your plans after graduating?
MS: My plans are to go to Washburn University and Major in Psychology.
SEK: Finally, what is a fun fact about you that people may, or may not know?
MS: I can say the alphabet backwards perfectly (99% of the time).
Thank you to Makayla for her time and best of luck to her in her college and future career
