St Paul Indians take down defending State Champion Osborne Bulldogs

The Osborne Bulldogs traveled to St Paul, Ks to take on the Indians. The Bulldogs are the defending State Champions in this division and are looking to repeat for another year. Coming into the game Osborne has only one loss to Pike Valley and are 9-1 on the season. The Indians hold the same record of 9-1 and their only loss came at the hands of West Elk, who tonight is hosting Burlingame for the right to play in the Sub-State Championship.
St Paul won the toss and elected to receive the football. Osborne’s Darnell Holloway handled the kicking duties. Anthony Albertini took the short kick for a 10 yard gain. The Indians Adam Albertini lead off with a runs of 3,8 yards. Collin Carlson had a run for 15 yards. QB Braven Born had passes to Caleb Pecha and Adam Albertini. The Indians turned the ball over on downs. Darnell Holloway scored on a TD run, only to have it come back on a holding call against the Bulldogs. The offense stalled and Holloway punted the ball to the Indians. The Indians offense could not find the handle to get the ball up the field. Koby Spielbusch punted for the Indians. Darrien Holloway would lead the charge for the Bulldogs moving the ball up the field. Denton Schurr ran through the Indians defense. Collin Carlson and Grant Hutcherson shut down the Osborne offense on this series of plays. Osborne turned the ball over on downs. With St Paul deep in their own territory Braven Born was stripped of the football and the Bulldogs recovered the football. Darnell Holloway kicked off to Keaton Kennedy for a 20 yard return. The Indians fumbled the football, Osborne’s Denton Schurr recovered the football. The 1st quarter would end with Osborne 8 St Paul 0

Osborne’s Darnell Holloway threw to Roxton Brown for a 15 yard gain. Holloway found Denton Schurr and Darrien Holloway for positive yardage gains. Darnell Holloway threw to Denton Schurr for a Osborne TD. Darrien Holloway scored the extra point. Osborne 16 St Paul 0
Darnell Holloway kicked off to Caleb Pecha for a 30 yard gain. Carlson and Albertini moved the ball up the field. Osborne received an unsportsman like conduct penalty. With 3:06 left in the second quarter Braven Born found pay dirt. Adam Albertini added the extra point. St Paul 8 Osborne 16
Alex Mate kicked off for the Indians. Darrien Holloway received the ball. The Bulldogs received a personal foul, for a 15 yard penalty. This would end the second quarter.

The Indians Alex Mate kicked off for the Indians for a touchback. The Bulldogs moved the ball up the field. Darrien Holloway found pay dirt, only to have erased by a block in the back call on Osborne. The Bulldogs would not be denied. Darnell Holloway thew a TD pass to Denton Schurr with 10:18 left in the third quarter. Darnell found brother Darrien for the extra point.

Darnell Holloway kicked off for the Bulldogs for a touchback. QB Braven Born found Caleb Pecha on pass plays to move the ball. Carlson and Born ran the ball on this offensive series. Born found Pecha down field for a 40 yard TD strike. The extra point was no good. St Paul 14 Osborne 24
Indian Alex Mate kicked off for a touchback. Carlson and Anthony Albertini kept pressure on the offense. Grant Hutcherson sacked Holloway for a 5 yard loss. Caleb Pecha intercepted a Darnell Holloway pass. Darrien Holloway made the tackle and sustained a game ending injury. The Indians moved the ball down the field as the third quarter would end. The Indians QB found Collin Carlson in the endzone with 11:10 left in the fourth quarter. Adam Albertini tacked on the extra point. St Paul 22 Osborne 24
Indians Alex Mate kicked off for a touchback. Osborne were a three and out on this series. Holloway punted to Adam Albertini for a 10 yard return. Carlson and Albertini ran the ball down the field. Born found Pecha on a 20 yard TD strike. Easton Dent tacked on the extra point. St Paul 30 Osborne 24
Indians Alex Mate kicked off for a touchback. Carlson and Grant Hutcherson teamed up to stop Denton Schurr for a 5 yard loss. On the next play, after the smoke cleared Collin Carlson and Caleb Pecha sacked Darnell Holloway in the endzone for a safety. St Paul 32 Osborne 24
With 5:42 left in the Bulldogs kicked off to the Indians. The Indians moved the ball down the field. Indians kicker Alex Mate kicked a 20 yard field goal putting the Indians ahead. St Paul 35 Osborne 34
With 2:09 left in the game, the Bulldogs got the ball back. Darnell Holloway lead the final offensive series in hopes of scoring a TD. Osborne received two penalties to shut down this drive. Holloway on the last play from scrimmage was sacked by Collin Carlson to end the Osborne’s chances to score. The Bulldogs turned the ball over on downs. St Paul ran out the clock to end the game. With the win, St Paul won the Sectional championship and will host #1 Burlingame Bearcats in the Sub State Championship for chance to punch their ticket to the State Championship in Newton on Nov 25. After the game, Coach Keith Wiatrak said the game was everything he hope it would be. The boys never quit and found ways to get the job done against Osborne. Coach Wiatrak said Burlingame is a strong team, but knows the Indians have the talent to get them to the State Championship. Join the Indians next Friday for the game against Burlingame, the start time is yet to be determined.
