The Chanute Blue Comet soccer team traveled to Coffeyville for the final game of the season, on Thursday. Coffeyville came out with the win after a goal in the 73rd minute.
The last time these teams played, the Tornadoes won 3-1. This time Chanute was sure to not let that happen again. Both teams played an amazing game. Neither team scored until there were merely seven minutes left in the game. Coffeyville was finally able to pop one in and take the 1-0 lead. Chanute was unable to answer and lost the game, putting their final record as 7-7-2 on the first season in school history.
Despite the loss, the Blue Comet defense was looking great. Goalkeeper Chandler Finuf, along with his supporting defensive cast, played their hearts out.
“A lot went good. I mean, our defense played a really good attacking team. We played them for 80 minutes and they got one, I mean a good team is always going to make chances, they only finished one of them. Two of theirs went off the post, I don’t know if Chandler knew they were going off of the post and let them go. Yeah, they beat us 3-1 earlier now we held them to one.” Chanute head coach, Adam Wilcox on his team’s defensive play.
