CHERRYVALE (1-1) VS. ERIE (1-1)
Both teams are coming off of the first victory of 2018. Cherryvale with a 42-28 win over Leon Bluestem. Erie with a nice 20-6 win at Neodesha. The Chargers will be lead by senior quarterback Cade Addis along with Garrett Novotny and Wyatt Gillman. Erie is lead by senior quarterback Jaden Gard and junior Tyler Wimp. Gard has been piling on impressive numbers in the stat sheet the last two weeks. Cherryvale is going to have to play better defense to win Friday night . Erie needs to have someone other than Gard to have a big game offensively along with some big turnovers to enjoy a victory bus ride home.
EUREKA (1-1) AT HUMBOLDT (2-0)
Humboldt is riding high after two weeks of blow out football. Winning last week against Fredonia 42-7. Eureka enjoyed a week 1 win over Leon Bluestem but was crushed by Tri Valley power Caney Valley last week 41-0. The Cubs will bring a lot of size and speed in Friday’s game. Lead by senior Dagen Goodner , playing quarterback this season. Goodner is 13 of 17 throwing the football for 237 yards with three touchdowns. He is also coming into the week 3 matchup with 205 yards on 20 carries rushing and 4 touchdowns. Junior Conor Haviland has 267 yards with 4 touchdowns . Humboldt will smother teams with their defensive front led by senior David Watts and Tucker Hurst. Eureka will have senior quarterback Cade Burden trying to lead the Tornadoes with its first victory against the Cubs since 2011 . Cade Larcom and Zach Hare will lead the receiving corps Friday night . Hare and junior Brandon Darbyshire will be in charge of slowing down the running game of Humboldt.
FREDONIA (1-1) @ LEON BLUESTEM (0-2)
Fredonia is coming off a tough loss last week to Humboldt 7-42. Leon Bluestem suffered their second loss in a row against the Cherryvale Chargers 42-28. The Yellow Jackets bring a power running game with some tough runners and a big offensive line. The Lions Nicholas Laidler set a school record for single game passing last week. He threw for 338 yards. Receiver Hunter Clift set the single game receiving record with 182 yards. This game will feature two completely different styles of play. This game will come down to which team is more mentally prepared from this weeks practices. Fredonia was probably humbled a little bit from last weeks loss . Knowing coach Svaty a little the Yellow Jackets had a good week of practice and are ready to get rolling in the victory column again.
CANEY VALLEY (2-0) AT NEODESHA (0-2)
The Bullpups of Caney are coming in with big lopsided victories in their first two weeks of play. Last week beating Eureka 41-0. Neodesha is coming a tough loss to Erie 20-6 . You have to go back to the 2013 season since the Bluestreaks have had this bad of a start to a season. And then to have to go up against the powerhouse of the Tri-Valley. Senior Blaze Grimes has been battling tough trying to get this squad going in the right direction. Senior Randall McKinnis has been battling the injury bug in both of their games so far. Caney brings in some really talented players . They will be lead by Trey Richey at the quarterback position along with Mathew Simpson and Brendon Buoy. Neodesha will probably have problems even keeping this one close in the first half.
My thoughts after 2 weeks
This is the last week for pre-season football. Next week is the start of district games for all Tri-Valley teams. What my hope is , is that all the teams can come out of week 3 as healthy as possible to give them the best chance to succeed . Fredonia and Eureka are coming off losses after opening the season with a victory . Which team gets it going again? Is Humboldt as good as some think? How will Caney Valley compete with some of the big boys that they have in their district ? These are some questions that we will just have to wait and see how they play out. Go out and SEE A FRIDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL GAME FOLKS. WATCH THE YOUNG MEN ON BOTH SIDES COMPETE . WATCH THE STUDENT SECTION HAVING SOME FUN . Hope you come back next week to read some more Tri-Valley league news.
