2017 season in review: To put it lightly, Southeast struggled through a tough CNC League with an inexperienced roster during the 2017 season. Facing the likes of Galena, Girard, and Baxter Springs proved to be a tall task for the Lancers. However, Southeast often times found themselves playing schools that had a roster double the size of theirs. Although not much went right for Southeast in 2017, the roster was able to gain valuable experience as they head into the TRL. The Lancers finished the season 0-7, marking their third consecutive winless season.

Key departures: Austin Hunt

Top returning players:

QB/DB Brett Malle — (Sr.)

QB/LB Bryce Petersen — (Jr.)

RB/LB Jakob Tavernaro — (5’10, 155, Jr.)

RB/LB Zaden Hendricks — (So.)

WR/DB Reese Jacobs — (5’10, 140, Jr.)

WR/DB Garrett Evans — (Jr.)

OL/DL Noah Newcomb — (6’0, 260, Sr.)

OL/DL Dan Cheney — (Jr.)

OL/DL Blaise Prewitt — (Jr.)

OL/DL Ty Cummins — (So.)

OL/DL Micah Uber — (S0.)

2018 season preview: Southeast will be making the full-time transition into the TRL in the upcoming 2018 season. This is exciting for the Lancers as they will now be competing with schools and rosters more comparable to their size. While they have gone winless over the last three season, there is quite a bit of optimism surrounding the program. Southeast brings back a handful of players that have now spent valuable time on the varsity level. The Lancers also bring back QB/DB Brett Malle and OL/DL Noah Newcomb who they will lean on for veteran leadership in 2018. Southeast is not short of athletes who have previously competed in the tough CNC League, which should be invaluable while joining the TRL. Keep an eye out on the Lancers in 2018 as they now feel they are on an even playing field with their competition.

Biggest game of 2018: Northeast. The top game of the year could have been a handful of teams on the Lancer’s schedule now that they are in the TRL. However, like Southeast being Northeast’s biggest game in 2018, we feel the same about Northeast being Southeast’s biggest game of the season. With both teams struggling to earn wins in recent years, this is a great chance for Southeast to earn a victory over an old rival. The Lancers can gain bragging rights as well as the upper hand in the Southeast-Northeast rivalry that is almost sure to materialize now that they compete in the same league. To add to the stakes, this is also a district contest. With two young rosters in play, this is a match-up to watch heading in the future.
