UDALL – It was a steady pace on Friday night for the Eagles of Udall as they went on to shut out Central-Burden on Friday night by a score of 20-0.
Coach Wyatt Williams credited his defense in the win.
“Once again our defense bailed out a very sloppy offense,” Williams said. “We had at least two touchdowns called back by penalties and turned the ball over three more times, twice inside the red zone.”
Isaac Petteson dominated on the Eagles defense with 15 tackles. Alan Garton and David Otis contributed with a sack a piece in the shutout win.
Garton also contributed on offense with 53 yards on the ground and one touchdown. The Eagles offense was led by Jayce Rieth with 69 yards rushing and a touchdown.
Through the air Trent Whiteman hauled in 40 yards of receiving with a touchdown and Isacc Jirak hauled in a catch for 26 yards.
“Our effort was much better in the second half, which is a big improvement from the first two games.” Williams said.
Udall is now 2-1 with the win and will host South Central to open up Eight Man I-District 2 play next week. The Timberwolves are 3-0 overall following a 48-14 home win over Hodgeman County.
Central falls to 0-3 and will host fell SCBL member West Elk, which lost to Saint Paul 52-6 on Friday night, for the start of Eight Man I-District 1 play.
“I saw some really good things as far as the defense goes,” said CHS coach Anthony Blair. “We stepped up and restricted them from the big play. We forced a couple of turnovers, which was really good. At the end of the day, it came down to our lack of execution on offense. We need to be mentally tougher to do the right things and compete to drive the ball into the end zone. We moved the ball at times, but it just seems like we couldn’t convert when we needed to.”
