ROSALIA – The Udall Eagles scores 21 points in the first half on Friday night and it was enough to earn the season-opening and league win over Flinthills 21-0.
“Overall we played like it was our first game. We were very good defensively but struggled offensively. We were very sloppy on offense, and were bailed out by our defense,” noted Udall head coach Wyatt Williams.
The Eagles were led by sophomore running back Jayce Rieth’s effort on the ground. Reith posted 51 yards rushing on 11 carries and one touchdown. Senior quarterback Trever Whiteman went 3-6 with 24 yards and one rushing touchdown.
However, Udall’s offense was plagued with turnovers with 3 fumbles lost to Flint Hills. The defense will erase the turnover ratio with 3 fumbles recovered of their own and 2 interceptions.
Udall’s special teams scored the other touchdown of the night with a junior Isaac Jirak kick-off return for a touchdown.
Udall (1-0) is once again on the road against West Elk (1-0), who also shut their opponent, Marmaton Valley, last Friday. Flint Hills (0-1) will go to league rival Caldwell (1-0) on Friday night.
