The soccer regular season has officially come to an end in the Southeast Kansas League. Here are the final regular season standings with this week’s scores.
*Independence and Chanute shared the SEK championship this season with identical 7-2-1 marks. This is the first co-championship for SEK soccer since 2005 when Independence shared the crown with Pittsburg.
*Independence wins the league title for a second straight season after clinching the outright championship a year ago. This is the 12th championship in the history of the Bulldog soccer program, which includes previous titles in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2022.
*Chanute has captured its first league championship for soccer. The Blue Comets soccer program started in 2018. Prior to this season, Chanute’s best finish in the SEK was fourth place three different times in 2018, 2019 and 2021. The soccer championship was the fourth SEK crown for Chanute High School in the seven sports during the fall season, which also included titles in volleyball, football and boys’ cross country.
*With 12 titles, Independence leads all SEK programs in league championships for soccer, just ahead of Field Kindley with 7 and Pittsburg with 5. Chanute joins Fort Scott in fourth place on the all-time list with 1.
