West Elk Too Much for St Paul

St Paul – The West Elk Patriots came into the contest unbeaten 5-0, just like the St Paul Indians.  The word on the street, this would be a tough game for both teams.

With rain in the forecast for most of the day in St Paul, this made for a wet and sloppy field.  West Elk won the coin toss and elected to receive the football.  William Silvey took the kick and ran it back 10 yards to start the first series of play. The next play, Nic Moreno would run for no gain.  St Paul defense would commit an offside penalty, giving West Elk a first down.

On the next play, Koby Spielbusch would strip the ball and St Paul would recover the football.  St Paul QB Braven Born would take the first snap and run for a 25 yard TD.  Adam Albertini would run in the extra point.

Senior QB Cade Miller would give the Indian defense all they could handle in this contest.  Miller would be in the grasp of the defense and some how he would slip out and make a gain out of nothing.  The Indians had the Patriots on 3rd and 5, but would be off sides giving West Elk a 1st and 10.

Miller would find Josh Johnson on a broken coverage pass play for a Patriot 1st down.  Miller would score with 6:12 left in the first quarter, with the extra point no good.

St Paul would lead 8-6.  Adam Albertini would take the kickoff for a 15 yard run.  On the first play from scrimmage, Karsten Walker would sack Born for a 5 yard loss.   The Indian offense could not get anything going against the Patriots and would be forced to punt the football.

William Silvey would fumble and recover his own fumble.  The Indians would receive a facemask penalty, giving the Patriots the ball on their own 22 yard line.  On the next play, Miller would find Andrew Hurt for a 22 yard pass TD.  Hurt would score the extra point.  West Elk 14 St Paul 8.

On the kickoff Adam Albertini would score on a 60 yard run.  Born finds Caleb Pecha for the extra point St Paul 16  West Elk 14 with 2:42 left in the first quarter.

Alex Mate would kick the football out of the end zone for a touchback.  Again, Cade Miller would get the offense rolling with runs of 4,15,4, and 25 yards.  The quarter would end with the Patriots trailing.

At 11:55 left in the second quarter, Codie Cannon would score a TD.  The extra point was no good.  West Elk would lead 20 to 16.

On the ensuing kick off, Adam Albertini would run for 10 yards.  Born would be chased out the pocket and throw an interception to JD Helms.  Miller will take it in for a 22 yard TD run.  William Silvey would score the extra point.  West Elk 28 St Paul 16.

The Patriot defense would hold the Indian offense to a 3 and out series.  Punter Koby Spielbusch would kick the ball 47 yards to the Patriot’s 9 yard line. Again Cade Miller would lead the charge and put the Patriots down the field.  At 3:01, Miller would find Brec Miller for a TD.  It would be called back for holding on the Patriots offensive line.  West Elk would turn the ball over on downs.  St Paul would run the clock out for end of the second quarter.

St Paul would start the 3rd quarter with the ball.  West Elk defense would hold and St Paul would be 3 plays and out.  West Elk would start on their own 6 yard line. Silvey get things rolling. Miller and Silvey, would move the ball up the field.  On the West Elk 22, Miller would score on a 25 yard TD run. Silvey would score the extra point.  West Elk 36   St Paul 16.

On the kick off Adam Albertini would run it back for a St Paul TD.  The extra point was no good.  West Elk 36  St Paul 22.

The Indians and Patriots would trade field positions.  Keaton Kennedy would run the ball for the Indians.  He would have 9 yards on two carries.  Collin Carlson, Koby Spielbusch, Grant Hutcherson, Anthony Albertini, Caleb Pecha and Hunter Pollman were able to keep Miller in check, but it was a little too late to get things turned around.

West Elk turned the ball over on the next series.  Born was not able to get anything going on the series and turned the ball back over to West Elk.   The Patriots would run the clock out.

Coming into this game both teams were  able to put up 40 plus points.  Born would be 4 of 13 passing for 52 yards.  He would have 9 carries for 11 yards.  Collin Carlson 4 carries for 5 yards.  Adam Albertini 4 carries for 47 yards.  2 passes for 35 yards.  Brenden Doherty 9 yards on 2 catches.  The Indians  had 95 yards in penalties.

Next up for the Indians is Marmaton Valley at Moran. This should be a hard fought game for both teams.
