Get ready, sports fans, because the Fredonia High Cross Country team is back and ready to conquer the trails once again! Under the leadership of Head Coach Timothy Clausen, who’s entering his fourth season, the team is set to make a splash in the Tri-Valley League this year.
Last season, our athletes showcased their skills with three outstanding members making it to the State meet. Gracyn Bracken, Campbell Odell, and Zac Ramsey represented Fredonia High with determination and spirit.
However, as the saying goes, with every ending comes a new beginning. The team has bid farewell to Gracyn Bracken and Zac Ramsey due to graduation. These two impressive athletes were not only three-time state qualifiers but also played a significant role in securing victories. Gracyn Bracken even clinched a State medal in a previous competition.
Fear not, though, for the Fredonia team is not short of talent. The return of two key letterman, Campbell Odell and Audrey Smith, will surely give the team the boost it needs. Campbell Odell, a three-time State Qualifier and two-time State medalist, has a personal record of 19 minutes and 38 seconds, showcasing his dedication and excellence. Audrey Smith brings her skills to the table with a personal record of 22 minutes and 31 seconds.
Excitingly, we’re introducing a group of promising newcomers to the team. Five talented boys, Izac Valentine, Cody McCoy, Hunter Jankoski, Jaxson Williamson, and Caleb Anderson, are ready to leave their mark on the trails. On the girls’ side, we have three fresh faces: Emma Gyllenberg, Lainey Helton, and Reyna Tovar.
The 2023 season is all about potential and growth for the Fredonia High Cross Country team. Despite having a relatively young team, the guidance of our two returning seniors, Campbell Odell and Audrey Smith, will undoubtedly lead the way. Their experience as great runners and leaders will be invaluable in shaping the team’s journey. Coach Clausen believes that as the season progresses, the team will evolve into a fierce competitor for the league title in both boys’ and girls’ divisions.
In other exciting news, our alumni continue to shine even beyond high school. Zac Ramsey, a name familiar to Fredonia fans, is making strides at Neosho County Community College, showcasing the strong foundation built during his time on the Fredonia team.
So mark your calendars and prepare to cheer for the Fredonia High Cross Country team as they embark on a season filled with promise, potential, and the pursuit of victory!
